Sucky movie trailers
May 17
All of the latest trailers at Apple’s web site seem to be for boring foreign films, or Asian imports that should be more interesting than they are. SHAOLIN SOCCER makes me laugh, but not in a good way. In a manga, I think it would work, though. FULLTIME KILLER would be a better trailer if it started sometime before the 50 second mark. Check it out. By the time you’re done with the opening animations of the production credits, the trailer is already dead. Then there’s the British and Scandinavian imports that just don’t do anything for me.
About the only one of new interest to me is the trailer for the upcoming Tom Cruise flic, The Last Samurai. It doesn’t say much, but it looks pleasantly cool. It’s not even due out until December, which means they think it’s an Oscar contendor. The official web site contains very little right now, but there is a great short piece describing the history of Japanese rule, and the relationship between the Emperor and Samurai.

I don’t know why, but I’m intrigued by Freddy v. Jason. Hopefully its not a big disappointment.

Trust me – I saw Shaolin Soccer last year at a Mirimax screening, and it’s going to rock. The trailer does look silly, but it’s a really cool flick.

Saw the preview for Last Samurai before Matrix on Saturday. Looks very very very interesting.

Shaolin Soccer is the funniest film I’ve seen in ages, though I understand the Miramax version is cut. Seek out the Region 3 DVD instead.
