The next R.E.M. album
Jun 26
R.E.M. has finally set a release date for their greatest hits album, which they’ve worked on for the past 6 months. Yes, that’s right: It took longer than 6 months to put together a compilation of greatest hits.
Sounds weird, doesn’t it? To be fair, I think they were also working on material for their next album, which won’t be out until 2004.
The good news is that the album probably won’t include their war protest song that they put out on their web site a couple of months ago. It had to be the worst protest song ever written.

I also found this comment on the murmur.com board (a fansite).
In an interview in Italy, Mike Mills gave some information on the upcoming best-of CD, set for release this fall. Mills states:
“It will be a double cd, ‘In Time’ is the title and it will contain many rarities and also two new songs ‘Bad Day’ and ‘Animal’.”
I wonder if this will be like the U2 greatest hits were the 2nd cd will be b-sides?

You know, I looked at Murmurs.com for this and couldn’t find anything worthwhile. It’s such a mess to find anything useful over there… Thanks for pointing that out. I wouldn’t mind a B-side collection, but didn’t they do that already? I have an album of alternate cuts and B-sides here, don’t I?

Their first label, IRS, released a few collections to cash in on their success. “Best of R.E.M.,” “Singles Collected” and “In the Attic.” None of their WB stuff.
