I want to work for Google

I mean, I always have. That’s nothing new. But I just don’t have the PhD that they seem to like from their programmers these days. And they can afford to take the best, so they get the best. Plus, I’m not big on moving to California.

They do know how to treat their employees, though. The benefits are amazing. Free food. On-site dentist. It’s the peak of the Dot Com Days, but still thriving.

Yeah, I went through their job listing and I’m pretty impressed too. Alas, they’re in CA though, aren’t they?

    Elayne –>

Yup, they’re up near Silicon Valley. I believe they have offices elsewhere, though. Check out http://www.google.com/jobs/index.html if you’re patient enough to wade through them all. =)

    Jennifer –>

All of us computer techie types yearn to work for a really cool company, the likes of which all died off a couple of years ago. Google is the only one that survived, because they have the web’s killer app of the moment. Sadly, they’ve had the best app on the web for years now. Won’t anyone create something new?!?

“And they can afford to take the best, so they get the best. “

Um, thanks for the compliment :-) (I did mention at San Diego where I’m working these days, right?). We are starting to push a branch research office (in addition to the usual sales office) in Manhattan. But yes, the main office is here in the heart of Silicon Valley.

If you want to be really impressed by the major benefit, fish up http://www.google.com/jobs/food.html That really is a sample lunch menu (except there are usually a lot more salad offerings), and also similar to the dinner menu, except those don’t have desserts. Both are free.

“Wow, your resume kicks my resume’s ass.”

Not quite, it seems that “I Want To Work for Google” v1 is a flop. The resume/site is useless if I don’t get a job at Google. I am still waiting to hear back from them. I guess I am just another West Indian Dutch South American trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents. All the Flash in the world can’t help you if your Google resume site flops. :-(
