R.I.P. Bob Hope

You know what this means, right?

1. Many many Dead Pools around the country are paying out small numbers.
2. All those pre-written and edited stories at newspapers, websites, and TV news networks around the country are being updated with the words “2003″ and “100″ and are running as we speak. Now they can go back to polishing up their Reagan biographies again.

I’m a cynical one, aren’t I?

Well with all the recent deaths of famous people my brother and I had a silent bet on who would go next (I refused to participate, calling it morbid).
So he won. Next up Jack Palance? I know bad taste.

    You forgot one, Augie:

    3) The phrase “Thanks for the memories” would get used almost as much over the next week as Hope himself used it his entire career.

Oh, almost forgot something, related to point #2:

The New York Times obit for Bob Hope was written by Vincent Canby — who died in 2000.

Just noted and posted, Jody. Sorry I missed your post first….

And, yes, the whole “thanks for the memories” thing got cliche REAL quickly.

As for the next victim of the Dead Pool: I’m going with Walter Cronkite.
