The Iron Giant

It’s one of the greatest animated movies of the past 10 years. Possibly, you could make the argument, the best. Over in Region 3, the special edition DVD of The Iron Giant was released this week. In America, they seem to want to time it out with its director’s next film, which isn’t due out until November 2004. How incredibly stupid for them.

This has become my all-time favorite move. I was one of the ones who received a free pass to the movie when WB made the horrible decision to open it up against Blair Witch and not do much in the way of marketing.

If a DVD can get “laser rot” this is the one in our family’s library that will. My 2.5 year old will sit thru almost the entire show. It is pure fantasy that warms the heart without being preachy (Disney: get clue), doesn’t insert comedy relief character for the kids, and doesn’t talk down to kids. It is also one movie that is far supperior to the book.

Anyhoo… Best movie made. Hands down.

    Annoying isn’t it.

Especially since it was originally scheduled for July of this year. WB apparently thought it would sell better if they waited for Brad Bird’s next directorial project, Pixar’s “The Incredibles”.
That’s WB for you, completely unconfident about their animated products, otherwise we’d have had Superman, Looney Tunes, and Batman dvds two years ago.
