The first snowfall

Ah, the glories of the first quarter inch of snow on the road. Of course, when it’s covering a fine sheet of ice, it all makes for a glorious ride to work in the morning:

One 5 car spinout closing down Route 208 North. One pickup truck on his side off the fast lane of the Parkway South. One SUV on its roof on the Parkway North. And one fatality a few miles later, where a car went spinning out into the grassy median, rolled over a few times, ripped the car to shreds, and killed its driver. (It looked like one of those deathtraps like the Suzuki Samurai.)

Did I mention that I got to see the guy zipped up into his bodybag as I passed by that accident this morning?

Oh, and after that? No problems. Sun’s shining. The roads aren’t even wet. People down here in Union look at me like I’m crazy when I mention snow. I barely got down the hill from home, and these people haven’t a clue what ice looks like.

::sigh::

DVDs coming later today, thank goodness. Pardon me while I hit the Diet Pepsi hard.

The snow squalls hit Mass. just as the morning commute was beginning. It’s 9:10 here and my office is still 1/2 empty. There are accidents all over the place and in many spots traffic is at a standstill.

And we only got a dusting. Granted, the roads did get icy real quick and it does get dangerous, but we may be in for REAL snow this weekend and what’s gonna happen then? Traffic gets so bad that we’re all going backwards?

    Gotta love the snow. ;)

All of this weather means one thing: I HAVE to get my VPN working this week so I can work from home in case of another one of these little events. They’re great fun when you can just plug in the wireless connection to your cable modem, watch TV in the other room, and push buttons on your work laptop to get your day’s work done. =)

Otherwise, I either lose a day’s billing, or have to drive in. Ick.

In any case, I’m somewhat relieved to hear that I wasn’t alone, at least. I’m still getting funny looks around the office this morning. It seems there is one big 28 mile traffic backup right now somewhere, though. I think it’s either 295 or 95. Overturned tractor trailer or something.

And we all thought the Bush motorcade coming through town yesterday was bad. This tops that, easily.

    Michigan remains snow-free.

I was in Michigan over Thanksgiving and we had snow. So it was not snow-free. I drove it in and had to wipe it off my parent’s car when I left for pizza!!!!

Ah, you wacky mid-westerners can’t agree on anything, can you?

Oh, and I finally got my VPN working. And the snow started too late, so I spend 3/4 of a day at work today, anyway. Then, my 30 minute ride home took nearly two hours. UGH

how much snowfall have we had during december, 2003 and january, 2004?

  7. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

I don’t know the numbers, but I know it’s pretty high. I don’t think we set the all-time record, but we’ve been doing fairly well.

I just wonder how much snow we would have had yesterday if it hadn’t been raining all day. If that were all snow, we’d probably have had another foot on the ground.

Ah, well, there’s always the next possible snow storm on Tuesday. ;-)
