Gargoyles to DVD

This is still the stuff of rumor, but Q4 2004 looks likely for the release of the first season of Disney’s excellent Gargoyles animated series.

The show stood out for two reasons: First, it stole the design sense of the then new and popular BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. I believe one or two of the creators from the former helped the latter, though.

Second, the storylines were compelling, ranged over the course of the entire season, and did things that children’s TV wasn’t doing at the time, including a gun episode that showed blood. (Yeah, sure, it was another stupid anti-gun message show that wasn’t all that daring or creative, but for daytime TV in the early 90s? Interesting.)

If this thing does make it out, I’ll be lined up to buy my copy. Then, I can dump a bunch of VHS tapes into the garbage right afterwards.

WOOT!!!! I *heart* Gargoyles!!! I just loved when they really got into the mythology sides of things – Greek, Shakespearean, all the Macbeth stuff? Much deeper and sequential than your average cartoon.

    This is fab news…..

Left-wing morals like that always went over my head as a child.

I always took the message of the story to be that IDIOTS shouldn’t handle guns.

I mean…. I shot guns (still do); it would never enter into my head that they were bad, nor would I take that idea seriously.

In any case it was a fantastic series. I miss it.

Agreed, idiots shouldn’t handle guns. However, it seems to be the only gun storyline the writers in Hollywood are capable of producing. In their minds, there are no mindful gun owners. There are no gun owners who follow the safety guidelines the NRA promotes. (Oh, yeah, shh… Don’t tell Hollywood, but most of the work the NRA does is geared towards gun safety and proper handling and usage of the weapons. It might blow their mind to ever find that out.)

I’ve never held a gun, but one day I’d like to try it. I need to find me a friend who’ll take me to the shooting range with him…

I have my own shooting range.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
