Garfield and Friends

Mark Evanier runs down a list of TV shows he’s looking forward to being released on DVD in the near future.

At the end of that list, he drops one very big happy piece of good news: GARFIELD AND FRIENDS is coming, too. The Klopman Diamond might be returning yet! And Binky the Clown! Ah, they don’t make good cartoons like they used to.

If we’re lucky, perhaps we’ll even get the Ant Song(s). Heaven help me, I can still hum that song from memory. Don’t remember many of the words anymore, but I can picture some shots from the short.

In any case, a complete episode guide is also available, for those who are curious.

The Ants ruled, but their second song was a little better than the first…

“Oh, we are the ants you met last season, we are back by popular demand!”

Garfield and Friends was a great show. A little too US Acres heavy at times, but a great show. Let’s hope for full season releases, but if they go the “Best Of” route, it really needs to include both Ants appearances, the making of mini-malls (they’re grown from seeds, not built) and the elements of comedy (TIMING!).

I hate “best ofs” in television collections. I don’t really care what episodes the creators liked unless it’s commentaries adjacent to the totality of the programs created.

I want to see everything until I stop caring.

    Then form my own opinions!

    Dangit!

What cheeses me off is that after we got Garfield and Friends in wonderful comfortable hilarious hour-long episodes on CBS whenever I saw a syndicated episode for many years afterwards… they were thirty minutes long. That meant two Garfireld shorts with one US Acres short in-between with a Garfield Quickie at the end. I missed Screaming With Biuky. Screaming With Binky was missing from all the syndicated versions. I think the US Acres shorts were omitted too. Finally i may see them all again.

You do know that after so many characters my reply-text goes right off the screen, right?
