You Decide
Here’s the choice I have tonight.
(A) It’s Wednesday. Today is the day new comics are released, and is generally one of the highlights of the week.
or
(B) Avril Lavigne is doing an acoustic set at the Garden State Plaza mall, which I pass by if I take the other way home. It’s just been announced in the last 24 hours or so, so there’s a small small chance that it won’t be a complete mob scene.
I have to choose between the two because they take me in two different directions on my route home. Do I brave the crowds of teenagers at (B) for a chance to get anywhere near where I can hear the set, or do I go for the safe choice in (A) and just get some comics and be happy?
What do you think?

DUH!!!!…Let’s think about this logically. First, the comics will be there tomorrow and Avril won’t. Second, chicks will be at the mall and they WON’T be the comic book shop. Need I say more?

I’m 28. I feel like a dirty old man when I walk into that mall to pick up a newspaper or a magazine at Borders. They’re all a bunch of goth hoochies swimming around the front door, with cigarettes perched in their hands. . .

You are 28, NOT DEAD! I am sure the will be twenty something’s there. If not it was worth a shot! Maybe you’ll meet someone who not only likes Avril but also read Pipeline!

Christmas! What the hell is wrong with you! A mall full of angry young woman who want to piss their fathers off…or an empty book store with a clerk who looks oddly similar to someone on the Simpsons. Hell! I am going to the mall!!!!

How did this go from “Should I bother with crowds to see a singer I would like to hear perform live?” to “What are the odds of getting a hook-up at a mall?” I’m baffled.
Can someone I DON’T WORK WITH please respond? ;-)

If you really don’t think it’ll be crowded, the go hit the mall. Recently 7,000 people showed up to meet Jessica Simpson at a Wal-Mart outside of Boston and little kids got trampled. It was a mess. So I’m skeptical that it’ll be tolerable, but it could be fun.

Well, since I’m the one who told you about this:
I say go. How many times can you say you say Avril perform live? How many times can you say you went to the comic shop?
Answer: None and too many.

I was going to say pick up comics and just go home. Then I read the first post. There WILL BE GIRLS there. I’m sure there won’t JUST BE teenaged girls there. I say: Go see Avril, even if you’re not a fan. Who knows? You might just get lucky.

Avril, of course. Pick up comics tomorrow, and then you have both.

I think the Tribe has spoken!

You’re all a bunch of hormonal nutjobs. I’ll give you the full update tonight on what I do, but it’s not too late to keep voting. Anyone have a good answer to mitigate my hatred of crowds? Look at what Pmpknface said, and that’s for someone who hasn’t sold any albums lately. ;-)

Look at it this way; can the mall be any more crowded that last year’s San Diego Con?

I think Tom wins with the most convincing argument. =)
I went. It was cool. AND surreal. I’ll have a full write-up later. I need to eat dinner first.
Shawn — check your cell phone voice mail. You might be able to hear a bit of the concert. ;-)

Hey there! Sorry I wasn’t able to comment all day, but today was the first day of a 3-day conference off site, and I didn’t have a chance to go online.
First off, you definitely made the right decision. I would have told you Avril in a heartbeat. Mainly because I’m a big fan (Who is NOT a teenager), and I could possibly live vicariously through you. ;)
Also, the comic book store WILL be there tomorrow, as will your comics (we should know, My Boy and I go on Thursdays). This provided you with the opportunity to both see Avril AND have the prolonged enjoyment of the comics to look forward to tomorrow.
A winning situation all around, I would say!
