The UPS desktop icon
Is it just me, or does the new UPS logo look like it was pulled from a Mac or Linux desktop? It has a very similar style to the way icons are being designed today. I like it.

Not a “new” logo, dear. Been in use since March of 2003. I should know, I helped coordinate the South Americna portion of the launch. ;)
If you like, I can regale you with all the psychology that went into its design. ;)

Objection sustained.
I’ll rephrase your honor.
“The UPS logo that has suddenly been painted onto all of the UPS trucks in the Northern NJ area in the last month or so.”
Not “new.” Just “new to me.”
I’m not sure how it makes me feel, so I’m hoping you’ll explain it now, Bronte. =)

Ah. Didn’t realize it would take that long to get all the NJ trucks re-painted, particularly since there’s a principal hub somehwere up there. Odd.
And let’s see…the logo is supposed to retain enough of the “old” feel for you to not feel like you’re with a totally new company – the quality of service, almost a century of tradition and innovation and reputation should all be evoked. HOWEVER, the package off the top of the logo was eliminated, indicating that the company should no longer be percieved as “just” a package delivery company – they now do logistics, storage, mass transportation, online management, and multiple other thingies. :) Finally, the slanted swooshy top of the logo is supposed to evoke energy and motion, tying everything together – it’s a company with a century of tradition, no longer limited to its old ways, always moving forward into the future.
::eye rolls::
So – do you get all that?? If not, I can direct you to someone in Atlanta who spent vast amounts of money on a marketing firm to develop this logo. :)

y’know it’s great that they have all that psychology in the design of the logo. too bad it’s usually always undone by the simple fact that almost everyone i know tends to refer to UPS as ‘those doodoo-colored delivery people’.
i damn near busted a gut when they rolled out their ‘what can brown do for you?’ campaign. my first response was something like ‘get me hiiiiiighh???’ followed by various utterings on going to the bathroom.
the fact that they went with a slogan that evokes slang for either black tar heroin or taking a dump to me kinda screamed ‘we’re asleep at the switch’ to me.
