Iron Giant SE DVD FINALLY announced

It’s about flipping time. One of the best animated features of the past decade — some might even say the best — is finally coming to DVD in a special edition. THE IRON GIANT SE DVD is due out in Setpember. The “regular” edition has been available for a long time, now, but this is a movie that truly deserves better treatment.

Director Brad Bird’s next feature, THE INVINCIBLES (at Pixar) is due out shortly afterwards. Coincidence? Probably not, but how geeky do you have to be to know that? I imagine Warner will put “From the Director Of” stickers on the packaging to make it more obvious.

This is great news…but SEPTEMBER 7?!? Ugh. How much more can they release on this date? Even before this announcement, this was probably the busiest day in dvd history (or at least for my dvd bank account and only one week after Star Trek TOS: The First Season): Alias Season 3, Angel Season 4, the Hitchcock box set, Magnum, P.I. Season 1, Columbo Season 1, and much, much more.

Ah! Don’t tell me that, Jeff. That’s 3 must-haves on the 7th (Angel, Alias, Iron Giant) and 1 for the 21st (Star Wars). Somehow, I have to make more money…

God, that’s a BAD day. Sheesh.

Hey, just to make matters worse, does anyone know what’s included in that Hitchcock set?

    BronteJD:

It’s a 10-disc set featuring: Strangers on a Train (Special Edition), Foreign Correspondent, Dial M for Murder, I Confess, Suspicion, Stage Fright, The Wrong Man, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and North By Northwest (but it’s the same excellent version released a few years back).

This edition was actually announced for fall of last year (had a list of features, cover art, the works), but when Brad Bird was announced as director of The Incredibles. It was postponed for a full year, I was ready to kill.

Isn’t the new Pixar movie called The INCREDIBLES? or did I miss something?
