Shawn Ryan, the creator of “The Shield,” and writer-director David Mamet are teaming up for a series about the U.S. Army antiterrorism unit known as Delta Force. The show, which 20th Century Fox TV will produced, will follow the lives and dangerous work undertaken by members of the Delta Force. It’s based on the book “Inside Delta Force” by Eric Haney, one of the founding members of the force.

  1. Wow, who saw that one coming?

It could be really cool. I’ve never seen The Shield, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. And Mamet’s…Mamet, so that says it all right there.

  2. I haven’t seen the Shield, but I’ve heard enough good things about it that it’s on my Netflix queue.

I like Mamet, but his movies, while enjoyable, always have nagging negatives. One is the often unnecessary tack-on plot twists that don’t make sense.

Another is that his much touted touch for dialogue sometimes falls way flat. I can’t imagine watching a regular television series where ever few lines are spoken with the deadpan, affectless tone he directs his actors to use.

I’d probably give the show a try, my tight schedule permitting, but I don’t have high hopes for it. And it’s another show about terrorism/cops/army/lawyers. Bleccchhhh! How many of those do we need at the same time?

  3. My god. Chuck Norris is coming to television !!!

Hands up all who remember those old movies ?

  4. Norris isn’t taking part in this series. They’re just comparing his movie to this series.

On the other hand, Norris already had a long-running TV series in the 90s. TEXAS RANGER, it was called. It was hidden on CBS Saturday nights, so I can’t blame you for not noticing it.

  5. Oh we got Walker Texas Ranger. A late night fixture for quite awhile here in Sydney. Its probably in rotation on one of the cable channels but I can’t say as I don’t get cable.

I don’t think many young folks will remember Chuck’s Delta Force films so the way is relatively clear to do a straightahead TV series.
