Convention Coverage this week

No, don’t worry. I’m not doing convention coverage this week.

I just want to take bets: Will there be more coverage in the media this week of what’s going on INSIDE Madison Square Garden, or OUTSIDE Madison Square Garden?

Right now, all the local NYC media are covering today’s protests like they were the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. All we’ve heard about in the past month (ad nauseum) is about the protests being planned for the week.

Look, it’s the Republican’s fault for being so silly as to stage a convention inside New York City, but still… I have very little idea what’s supposed to happen at the convention, itself, this week.

With all due respects, Augie, but are you naive enough to believe the Republican Party would prefer the rest of the US to know what’s going on inside rather than what’s going on outside? Those protestors create a good “underdog” “hey, we haven’t done anything to deserve this” that the US public loves to root for and Dubya knows exactly how to sell this (Do I really deserve this punishment? And then he makes a sad puppy face like he hasn’t slaughtered thousands of people without reason. And yes Sadamm was bad, but not having something planned for the fall of his regime has brought this situation which is even worse) He uses it all for his advantage without having to talk about the tough issues, because that wouldn’t bode well for him

At this point – since the converntion hasn’t actually begun – the protests ARE the bigger story, objectively speaking. Especially given the size. While the PROTESTERS’ estimate of half a million is of course, inflated, the 100,000+ figure seems safe. 100,000 people protesting in the streets of NY IS news.

I will only listen to King George. I’ll be interested to see how he handles himself with a prepared speech. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen him speak publically and he is so nauseatingly bad. So, I’ll be hoping for a train wreck… or a turn of the phrase… or SOMETHING!!!

Probably get rah rah speeches to the faithfull and nothing of any significance.

By the way, 100-500 K protesters is news. Although, I don’t remember what the protest numbers were for the Dems. Anybody know?
