Phantom of the Idol

By special request, I have the audio from the “Phantom of the Opera” audition on AMERICAN IDOL earlier this week. It’s an MP3 file, runs about 30 or 40 seconds, and will be a 300kb download.

It’s recorded off the air (with lots of static) from WPLJ 95.5’s Scott and Todd Morning Show. Those are the voices you’ll hear over her.

This file will remain up until I receive a cease and decist e-mail from either PLJ or American Idol. ;-)

Wow. Those are some NOTES. Thanks, Augie!!!

  2. John C. Says:

Did you mean bad notes? ;) Color this major musical theater fan, the guy who drones on about wanting a Broadway Idol here every year, unimpressed.

  3. Patricia Says:

I meant that they were high. As in really high. Not entirely convinced by their tonality, let’s say. But I’m also hearing them off a bad recording off a computer. ;)

And I’m right there with you as a major musical theatre fan. :) What are your faves??

  4. John C. Says:

Ah; they WERE high. Maybe a bit too high for her.

don’t you have the name of the girl who sang the phantom of the opera? she’s amazing! I almost cry when I heard her!!

  6. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

Cathy - her name is Briana Davis. For the show writeup, go to http://www.variousandsundry.com/index.php?p=2209

Regarding the blue-haired Manson Family pixie, Brianna Davis (whom I thought was charming,) the highest note she hit was a high C# (C Sharp for you non-musicians.) Not bad at all … too bad she didn’t show as good a flair for choosing a song to showcase her voice. Give me a call Brianna, if you need work as a background singer …

  8. James Says:

The girl is singing at least an octave above what’s in the written score. She could have probably preformed it better if she stuck to Webber’s notes. Also, I’m not sure if The Phantom of the Opera is the right song selection to add turns and additional grace-notes. Just my thoughts…
