Stupid Motorist Law

If nothing else, I just love the law’s name.

Dear Arizona, you’re my hero - Autoblog - www.autoblog.com

For the first time ever, Arizona will invoke the state’s “stupid motorist law.” The law, which was passed in 1995, would require a motorist to reimburse the state for the cost of rescues. The driver being charged, Paul Zalewski, 47, reportedly ignored repeated warnings, drove around traffic barricades, and attempted to cross a flooded street in his Hummer. Can’t you just see where this one is going?

One Response to “Stupid Motorist Law”

  1. Greg Burgas Says:

Augie: The law was actually passed in 1995, and they’ve only tried to prosecute one person under it. Now, since for the past few weeks this strange, wet substance has been falling from our previously blue skies here in Phoenix, we might have TWO people who fall under “stupid motorists.” The policeman in the case you cite had a great line about Hummers floating really easily. Arizona, IMHO, doesn’t do a lot right, but this is one of them.
