Expiring offer: Best Buy will stop rebates
Retailers’ love affair with mail-in rebates may be coming to an end.
In response to customer complaints, Best Buy Co. Inc., the world’s largest electronics retailer, promised Friday to eliminate mail-in rebates within two years. Best Buy’s rivals, including Circuit City Stores and CompUSA, are expected to follow suit.
“Our customers are telling us they just hate the process,” said Ron Boire, executive vice president and general merchandise manager at Best Buy.

I seriously hate mail in rebates. It bites.

It’s about time. Rebates are ridiculous. If something is on “sale” and requires a rebate, I won’t buy it, unless it’s something that I absolutely had to have anyway.
I must admit though – the only rebates I’m fond of are with Costco – they make it VERY easy to file their rebates – right online. No clipping, no mailing, nothing.

Not only is it a pain in the ass to send in the rebate, sometimes you don’t even get it.. and i don’t know if you’ve ever tried to return anything at best buy but they’re anal retentive cunts. And you absolutely MUST have a reciept to even begin or they won’t talk to you… lousy commies

I have hads to harrass too many rabte centers to even get them to send me a check. Way too much hassle. And by the time you finally get the money, you almost forget what it was for.
The last time I called was for two $20 rebates I mailed in December with a promised “6 week turnaround.” Well, it took about three months and a phone call to the rebate supervisor before they mailed out the checks. What a pain!
