New driving law in Colorado

I really need a separate “Driving” category on this blog.

ABC News: Colo. Cracks Down on Left-Lane Dawdling

Colorado is serious about its no-dawdling law in left lanes. Drivers who insist on staying in the passing lane are risking tickets as the State Patrol has begun enforcing a law requiring motorists to use the left lane for passing only.

Since the patrol started enforcing the “Left Lane Law” three months ago, troopers have written about 460 tickets or about an average of five a day to drivers who dawdle in the left lane.

I got a ticket for driving in the left lane once. I was doing 53 in a 55, and I think that ticked of the state patrolman.

Annoyingly, I was about 50 yards from the speed limit dropping to 40mph when I was pulled over.

They should do that everywhere. Too many people think they own the road and it’s up to you to go around them to pass. Sometimes you have someone with a vigilante complex, as if they’re helping enforce the law. Other times you find people with a curmudgeon complex, which is when the blocker wants to get back at “those damn kids” for driving too fast. Very few people squat in the left lane just out of ignorance: “Sorry officer, I didn’t know that I was supposed to keep right except to pass even though I have been taught that in driving school and instinctively do that whenever a cop, fire truck, or ambulance is on my ass”
