Rockstar: INXS Finale (Spoilers)

Again, I point out that this post and the comments which follow it will necessarily include SPOILERS for the series as a whole. Be warned.

There are SPOILERS among us.

I might have missed BIG BROTHER 6’s finale by a vote, but I got this one right, at least, as J.D. beat out Marty. MiG got cut first, which I also predicted as I watched it. Still, MiG’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” was kind of cool. He had his own style for it, though it’s clear that some of the moves were choreographed on stage a long time back. And was he wearing some kind of eye shadow last night? Weird. His pants were also painfully low, but enough of that. . .

J.D. was definitely the safer choice, though I still want to hear Marty’s “Trees” get a single, dagnabit. “Pretty Vegas” is already available to radio stations that might want it, and will be available exclusively through iTunes for a couple of weeks. (Ouch to MSN.com, who’s been carrying all the songs from the series so far.)

I also want to hear the song Marty was writing with the band on Sunday’s VH1 episode, because that sounded interesting. J.D. failed to prep for that songwriting exercise, but he thinks quickly enough, I guess, to overcome that.

I didn’t start watching the show until a couple or three weeks in, so seeing the original cast of contestants was all new to me. I still hope VH1 throws a marathon on the air for us sometime soon, because it’s clear that Marty and J.D. both had to change game plans fairly early on. Some of their early competition must have been very weak.

It’s going to take a lot of adjustment to get back into the AMERICAN IDOL mindset after this series.

Final thoughts on the series? Post below.

I thought it was interesting that after singing “You can’t always get what you want”, INXS had JD sing “What you need”… So obvious…It was over at that point.

…”If you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need…”

I have “Trees” on my iPod and am wearing the song out. It’s pretty obvious that Marty and JD have been the final two as far as INXS was concerned for a while — no one else had to do their own songs more than one week — and I think J.D. will be a fine fit for the band, as long as his head doesn’t get too big.

I’m hoping we hear more from Marty, with or without the Lovehammers.

Derhaken — Yeah, I laughed at one newspaper article the next day that said the band made their final decision because JD sang with the band so well. We all know the decision was made long before the final minutes of Tuesday night’s show.

Beau — I have a small assortment of songs from the show on my iPod, too, and “Trees” is definitely the top repeater. “How I Wish You Were Here” is a close second, followed by JD’s “Pretty Vegas” and the Elvis song he did.
