AnimaniacsTime to celebrate? Still based on anonymous sources, but this is the first hopeful sign in a long time of DVD watching. . .

What I really want on DVD from the 1980s is Thundarr the Barbarian.

THAT was a pretty darn good show.

Principal character designs by Alex Toth with secondary and additional character designs by Jack Kirby!

Best description of the show I’ve heard — “Planet of the Apes meets Conan the Barbarian!”

Pleasant stupid fun for the apeman in all of us!

“United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Jamaica, Peru… Republic Dominican, Cuba, Caribbean, Greenland, El Salvador, too! Puerto Rico, Columbia, Venezuela, Honduras, Guyana, and still…”

And I didn’t need to look that one up, either. Nor this:
“Baton Rouge, Louisianna; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Columbus is the capital of O-Hi-O; there’s Montgomery, Alabama south of Helena Monta, then there’s Denver Colorado, under Boise, Idaho. Texas has Austin, then we go north, to Massachusetts Boston, and Albany, NY…” (Pardon all the spelling goofs in there)

How you remember the words to those songs is an amazing, amazing human feat. First the White Sox win the World Series and now news of Animaniacs coming to DVD finally. This week can’t get any better for me. Except that I’m flying to Chicago for vacation, coincidentally this weekend.

I’m still waiting for the Tiny Toons, but at least I got Count Duckula :)

even more important is the news of a separate DVD release for Pinky and the Brain!

  7. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

I would have thought they’d do TINY TOONS first. I’m surprised they’re not. I’d love just a disc of TINY TOONS music, at least. Give me those music video episodes and shorts and I’d be happy for a little while. Give me the How I Spent My Summer Vacation movie on DVD and that would do. (”I’m waiting for the clock to strike 3:00. When it’s three o’clock we’ll be free. Then it’s adios, Looniversity…”)

Maybe there was just more demand for the more recent series.

If the Little House on the Prairie boxed set 9 featuring Albert overdosing on morphine can find financial backing, why can’t Warner Brothers and Spielberg see the tremendous need for ALL of the Animanicas to have a home on DVD? The entire body of work created is very worthy of a large DVD set (including all the Pinky & The Brain spin off episodes). This is cartooning at its finest!
