New releases, 01 Nov 2005

The release list is somewhat more manageable this week than it has been in the past couple of weeks. Still, there’s a lot of TV releases to look at. If you’re interested in those only, click here.

Everything else is at DVDJournal.com.

I’m sorry for the continued podcast delay. I’m hoping against hope that things will be fixed for tomorrow night, but I can’t make any promises.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: A Chipmunk Christmas

Admit it - all you really want for Christmas is a plane that loops the loop, right? Maybe a hula hoop? I can hardly wait.

Fame: Season One (4-disc set)

I’m going to live forever.

Monster Garage: Season Three (3-disc set)

Jesse James is the most likely TV show host to die in a car wreck. Number two is Tony Danza, who damn near pulled it off successfully last year.

Office Space: Special Edition (1999)

Best Buy even has a boxed set that comes with a red Swingline stapler. It’s one of the best movies of our generation.

P3K: Pinocchio 3000 (2004)

I laughed out loud at the title, and them promptly cast it from my memory.

The Perfect Man (widescreen) (2005)

Why did this movie fail? Does someone have a tough time believing that Heather Locklear would have a hard time finding a date? Really? Shock.

Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (widescreen) (2005)

I’m there. This is the week’s Must Buy for me. No, I’m not waiting for the Blu Ray version of the movie to come along in a decade. I’m buying this one. Deal with it.

VeggieTales: Lord of the Beans

How do you recast this one? Larry the Cucumber as Aragorn? Bob the Tomato as a hobbit, for sure. . . Might be interesting. Bet the songs are catchy. Now, where’s Larry’s hairbrush. . .

The War of the Worlds: Season One (6-disc set)

You forgot there was such a show, didn’t you? Good job. I hear the Tom Cruise movie adaptation of the TV series was pretty cool, too.

(Please don’t write me. That’s a joke.)

World P0k3r Tour: Best Of Season 3

“Best of” P0k3r disc? All the suck outs and bad beats and miracle flops are meaningless out of context.

Next week: CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, lotsa Christmas movies, DUCKTALES!!!!!!!, JEOPARDY!, and some other items of interest. Christmas is coming and the releases are getting more interesting. And did I mention DUCKTALES yet?

    OFFICE SPACE! Finally! “Mmmm-kay!”

Your defensiveness does not mask the fact that you know all the movies that came after Empire are crappity crap crap crap.

  3. EzekielRawlins Says:

The only reason to pick up Sith is to watch Yoda breakdancing.

  4. Trip Bakun Says:

I was all excited about the Office Space: With Flair edition until I read the review at the Digital Bits. Other than the anamorphic widescreen, I’m not sure that I need this edition. I hold out hold that we’ll get an even more super-duper version in a couple of years.

Also, don’t forget that if you purchase Ep III at Wal-Mart today, you’ll get an exclusive bonus disc with The Story of Star Wars narrated by C-3PO & R2-D2.

  5. Paul Says:

Was up around midnight last night so I decided I might as well get to Wal-mart and pick up Ep. 3. Ended up being the second person in town to own it. And yeah, Wal-mart probably has the best exclusive (Best Buy and Target also have special deals).

  6. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

Best Buy just has a Darth Vader litho to go with the disc. These lithos are good for one thing: Garbage can filler.

  7. Paul Says:

Lotsa good stuff next week. I loved the new Chocolate Factory. And then there’s Duck Tales, now there’s geeky goodness. It aint televised Carl Barks, but it’s the closest we’re probably going to get.
I wish Disney would actually use their greatest classic character. It would be heavenly to actually have Scrooge DTVs being cranked out every year (that don’t water down the character) instead of subpar sequels to Disney past theatricals. The thought of an adaptation of The Life & Times of Uncle Scrooge gives me chills (in a good way).

  8. Patricia Says:

Lord of the Beans?? That is a MUST have. :) “If you like to talk to tomatoes….” ;)

  9. Paul Says:

Oh yeah, this week is also notable for hosting the release of the only consistently good season of Enterprise.

  10. Shawn Says:

Don’t forget about adding Jason Priestly to that list (Branden Walsh) of car wrecks.

  11. Jeff Wooten Says:

I’m counting down the days till DUCKTALES, too! But does anyone know if they’ve nailed down any extras on the set? The only reason I ask is that I thought I read there was supposed to be a Carl Barks featurette on the upcoming WALT DISNEY TREASURES: DONALD DUCK, VOL. 2. However, wouldn’t it have made more sense to put it on the DUCKTALES disc? Oh well, at least we’re getting the episodes…but there’d better not be any cuts!

  12. GeorgeC Says:

Barks worked on Donald Duck theatrical shorts in the late 1930s and early 1940s before he started doing Disney comic books.

Therefore, it makes perfect sense to have a feature on him on the next Donald Duck Treasures collection.

Besides, none of the Disney TV series have been as good as their old theatrical shorts, let alone the great bulk of their animated features.

Most of their cheapquels are cheaply done overseas and it shows!

  13. Paul Says:

I beg to disagree. While the animated shorts are far better animated than the Disney tv series are, the tv series are on average better written and more enjoyable to watch multiple times.
All of Disney’s cheapquels are now outsourced. Disney closed their last studio DisneyToons Australia a while ago (I think this group’s last work is the upcoming Bambi DTV).
