Thursday link dump

* Better late than never for me to notice: November is National Diabetes Month.

* WIRED now has a glowing review of GUITAR HERO, one of the coolest games I’ve ever played. I kicked butt on “Iron Man” this week. The solo bit gets a bit complicated, but I’m sure it could be mastered with a little practice.

* WIRED is also running some extremely annoying pop-up type ads all of a sudden. UGH

* CSI MIAMI fans will have to go to the web site for a crucial bit of plot business for this year’s story arc.

* Shockwave game of the day: Roll On. Like Marble Madness for the web. Pretty spiffy graphics for a web game, too.

* The last BABYLON 5 telemovie, LEGEND OF THE RANGERS, is finally coming to DVD. Damn shame, that one. Had great potential, and got killed in the ratings by a playoff football game.

Guitar Hero is an awesome game. I was hesitant to spend $70 on it but it’s worth every penny.
Augie - do you know how to play an actual guitar? Are you playing on Easy, Medium, Hard? I managed to complete all the songs on Medium but the use of the 4th fret button on some of the later songs is giving me fits.

I don’t know how to play the guitar and it’s nothing that’s ever interested me. However, it’s a fun game that makes you FEEL like a rock god, which is pretty cool. I’m not worried that learning to play this game will inhibit me from learning how to play a real guitar — I have no interest in that. (I’ve made a couple of stabs at the piano/keyboard, but that’s about it, musically.)

I’ve only played the game two or three brief times at the demo unit at my local Best Buy. I played once on Easy, which was too easy and almost boring, and the other two times on Medium.

CSI Miami has friends who aren’t David Caruso?

I just interviewed the maker of Guitar Hero. We talked about challenges designing a custom peripheral, high price points ($70 game), product placement / co-branding, and innovation in games, etc.

Thanks, David. That’s a great interview. I’m going to add it to a link dump this weekend, I think. Interesting stuff. Now, let’s get them working on GUITAR HERO 2! ;-)
