FOXNews.com - Foxlife: Entertainment and Lifestyle News - Can Older ‘Idol’ Wannabes Find Success?
When “American Idol” contestant Taylor Hicks belted out Stevie Wonder’s golden oldie “Living for the City” there was scant age difference between the singer and the 32-year-old song.
Hicks, 29, and other “Idol” finalists edging near 30 are testing the limits of just how old an aspiring pop star can be and still gain acceptance from the music industry and the public — while the TV contest reaps the rewards of showcasing older performers.
It is a very different show today than it was in season one, in this respect. You used to root for the kid with talent. Now you root for the talented singer, whether they’re a kid or not anymore.

I’m going to go out on a really shaky limb here by predicting that Taylor Hicks will win A.I. this year. OK, yes, I know I said it would be a Chris-Katharine finale, but the more I think (and read) about this, the more I’m convinced that Taylor has a lock on the older-viewer vote, which I think is bigger than you might imagine. Of course, this all hinges on his not continuing to pick lame songs like he did last week. But I don’t think he will.

Speaking of “older” A.I. folk, has anyone else seen the story in Giant magazine in which Simon Cowell says one of the perks of having sex with porn stars is he doesn’t have to wear a condom? He says porn stars are frequently tested for AIDS and the like, so they are safer than regular people. Personally, that’s more than I wanted to know about Simon. (Sorry if this has been discussed here before.)
