Is Rock Star: Supernova cursed?
First, they lay off half the performers on tour for economic considerations, and now a quarter of the band is out. OK, so I’m likely overselling the situation, but this is rather unfortunate:

Tommy Lees supergroup Rock Star Supernova is back on the hunt for a star performer.Bassist Jason Newsted has been sidelined by injuries to his left shoulder, right bicep and right rotator cuff, the band said yesterday in a release posted on its website.
The former Metallica member, who was injured trying to catch a 40-kilogram piece of equipment that had fallen from atop his amp, is scheduled for immediate surgery and a rehab schedule that could last up to nine months.

You’d think, that after the neck damage he suffered through years of circle headbanging with Metallica, that Newsted would be a little hesitant to risk injury again. But in a sudden-emergency type situation, I guess anything can happen. The real problem is finding a bass player capable of getting the tone Newsted got with his pick; Dave Ellefson (former Megadeth member) maybe?

Replacements I’d like to see:
For Skill
- Les Claypool (Primus, many other bands)
- Geddy Lee (Rush, etc..) - If he’s still up for touring at his age
- Flea (Who wouldn’t leave RHCP for RSSN?)
For Fun
- Dusty Hill of ZZ Top (for fun)
- Gene Simmons (w/ Full Makeup)

It would be kind of funny for Claypool (a phenomenal bassist) to replace Newstead, given that Claypool originally auditioned for the bass slot in Metallica after Cliff Burton died.
And don’t bet against the Rush touring again; in a recent update I read in one of the many drum magazines I subscribe to, Neil Peart said the writing process for the next Rush album has begun in earnest, with some touring to follow. And besides, Geddy is just in his early 50s; Lemmy will turn 61 this Christmas, and he’s still touring all the time with Motorhead.

Perhaps he finally came to the realization that he was too good for that band and how much he had comprimised his integrity and reputation by appearing on a reality show in the first place.
