If all goes as planned, I’ll have a Wii pre-order from Toys R Us this morning.

So, Josh, Augie — get your Wiis pre-ordered today?

Yeah, well, Toys R Us = 1, Me = 0. I had to do some software testing for my job this morning, but I left for Toys R Us right after I fninished. I got there at about 9:45 (they opened at noon) and there was already a line of about 30-40. Most of the people were there for the new Elmo, so I felt like there might be a slim chance. Turns out they only had about 4 PS3s and 10 Wiis. So, my chances were shot long before I got there. The first people in line got there ar noon on Saturday, so they waited 24 hours! It wasn’t a complete loss because my wife was able to get one of the Elmos (she is a BIG Elmo fan). Back to waiting for an online bundle or waiting at the local Wal-Mart or Target. Worst case, I’ll have to wait a little bit.

Aw, bummer for both you guys. Except for making your wife happy, Josh — that’s cool.

(You haven’t shown her the videos where people light Elmos on fire, have you?)

I’m sure she has seen them before! On the Wii front, I am hearing anywhere from 1 to 1.5 million available day one. To put that in perspective, if I recall correctly, the Cube launched with 700,000 and they were pretty readily available for the first day or so. So, it may not be too hard to find one if you get them on the first day. Just would be nice to have something guranteed.

Got my Wii reserved yesterday morning. I got there at 8AM and didn’t know there would be lines for the Elmo and PS3…There were about 12 people in line for the PS3 and the first two apparently were there since Friday night. They had 8 PS3′s and about 20 Wii’s for preorder. The manager was also kind enough to offer the people in the PS3 and Wii lines a chance to buy an Elmo. Picked that one up too.

“My biggest worry about the system is that you’ll be controlling your characters movements with the nunchuk attachment. I’m a right. My left hand doesn’t have that kind of fine motor skill with a joystick.”

I think you can hold either controller in either hand. They don’t seem to be designed as “righty” or “lefty”. Both the remote and nunchuk are ambidextrous I think.

Rob — Yes, there is an option in the Wii system menus to specify if you’re a righty or lefty. I think I might be overreacting, though. I mean, the cross pad we’ve controlled characters with for years — going back to Super Mario Bros. — was always with the left thumb. So the nunchuk shouldn’t be any different right? Maybe it’s just the joystick instead of the cross pad that scares me. We’ll see how it feels eventually… (Maybe in just three short weeks. ;-)

Jeff – Congrats! I knew about the PS3, but didn’t hear about the Elmo explosion until I read some other blogs yesterday. Sounds crazy.

Apparently the parents in line for the Elmo were ready to riot and they were yelling at the manager while on the gaming side of the lines, we were all calm, cool, collected. It’s kinda funny.
