Today’s Insanely Long Wii Link Dump

  • Best Buy will be opening at 9 a.m. on Wii Launch Day (Sunday 19 Nov), where possible. There’s also a list of stores opening at midnight two days earlier for the PS3 launch. I like the idea of getting a Wii at 9 a.m. and having all Sunday to play with it. I don’t want to get a new console at midnight — I’m old and tire easily.
  • Wal-Mart had a Wii bundle you could pre-order for over $500 today. It sold out already. (Thanks for the pointer, Josh!)
  • They do have a Wii Buyer’s Guide, though!Wii console
  • Nintendo announced the games available in the Wii Virtual Console on launch day. It includes the original Mario Bros, Zelda, Ice Hockey (fun game!), Sonic the Hedgehog, and many many more.
  • And here are the 32 launch games available for the Wii in the first five weeks.
  • Nintendo confirms another Wii next year will play DVDs. I already have a DVD player, so this doesn’t bother me.
  • The AARP crowd likes the Wii, too.
  • There are still rumors of another Wii surprise yet to be announced. ::sigh::
  • Yahoo has opened up a separate Wii page. They get points for the countdown clock.
  • I hope all this news slows down before November 19th.  I fear that the excitement leading up to the system will dwarf the fun of the system, itself.  18 days before we find out. . .

  1. So, I actually was VERY interested in the Wal-Mart bundle. Was refreshing the page all day. And wouldn’t you know it, just as I feared, they decided to open the orders while I was at lunch! Argh!

  2. Can I just say that as a religious person who neither shops nor makes purchases on Sunday…this Sunday stuff sucks. At this point I’m holding out hope that someone in my area will do a midnight release so I can get one. I fear that waiting till Monday will mean I’ll be waiting for my Wii. Too bad too. I’ve got 500 bucks to spend. Amazing that I’m going to have a hard time getting anyone to take my money.

  3. Yay, I finally got a pre-order in! Had to by an insane bundle, but thankfully the extra stuff I don’t want will be returned somewhere like Wal-Mart. Probably won’t get my system till the 20th or 21st, but at least no camping!
