Well, it was worth a shot

The Wii was sold out everywhere by me by the time I woke up.  Well, maybe not, but my order of store visits was probably wrong.  Target was sold out when I got there.  Best Buy had already counted out the people for the units they had — cutting the line by more than a half, by all accounts.  Sears gave out their tickets earlier in the morning.

The one place I should have gone first was CostCo.  They had 24 units they had already ticketed for by the time I thought of them at 9:30.  (The store opens at 10.)

Even odder, there were people lined up outside CostCo a half hour before the store opened who weren’t there for any big hot ticket item.  They just wanted to be first in the store.  Sheesh, I would have slept in the extra half hour, folks.

So, I’ll try my luck on Amazon this morning, but then I’m done until 2007, most likely.  The Christmas crowds are only going to make this worse.

On the bright side, the Nintendo patrons, from all reports, were 100 times better behaved than the PS3 folks.

Well, even though I had a system preordered online, I decided to try to get a system faster. I decided to hit my local Target. Yesterday, I went to the local Wal-Mart around 5:00 PM and they already had filled their line. So, I decided to swing by Target. No line. It hit me then, I wanted to camp out! Having never done it before, I wanted to try it once. So, at 6 PM, I came back with all my gear to be the first in line. 14 hours later, I walked out with the first Wii from my Target. The line filled up by 3 AM, and there was this one mom who showed up right before tickets were given out. She just wouldn’t take no for an answer. She had to have it “right now because that was all he wanted for his birthday and Christmas!”

Things I learned from camping out for the Wii: 1. No matter how many layers of warmth you bring, you will still freeze your rear off. 2. For some reason, the hour between 3 AM and 4 AM feels like an eternity. 3. Don’t worry about losing you spot in line if you have to go to the bathroom or to get hot chocolate. The person next to you will be your best friend, especially when he asks you to watch his spot. 4. Camping out was a one time experience. It really isn’t that exciting. 5. Watching people get turned away because they show up 5 minutes before the store opens was pretty funny. 6. Watching the people complain about not showing up early is even funnier. 7. Being first in line and finaly getting a Wii makes it all worth it.
