This will tick off some people

But I don’t care. It makes me happy.  It does, however, increase the odds of a rendition of the song that’s not filled with screaming and every note being turned into ten syllables.

Tickets will go on sale Saturday (December 2nd, 2006) for a run of Billy Joel dates in the Southern US in February and March. Joel will sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida on February 4th, 2007, and the tour starts February 7th, 2007 at the Jacksonville (Florida) Arena.

This isn’t the first time. Billy Joel sang the national anthem at SuperBowl XXIII in 1989.

Hey, cool! Wish he had played a venue close to me during his tour earlier this year.

Y’know, I should’ve put 12 GARDENS on my Christmas list. Haven’t picked that up yet.

Why would anyone be ticked off that Billy Joel was singing anything?

Phil – It’s a good set on the GARDEN CDs. Well worth picking up, especially since he played some songs he hadn’t done live in decades.

Overworm – You’d be amazed, particularly by the number of people who are too cool for the room who do nothing but deride Billy Joel. I’m shocked we haven’t had any car crash or alcohol-related jokes in this thread, yet.

Yep, for me Billy Joel sits atop the list of musical artists unfairly derided by critics and/or cynics. To clarify, this means I like him more than the Eagles, the Doobie Brothers, et al.

I was badly disappointed after seeing him perform in concert a couple decades ago; to the point where he’s one of the few artists I didn’t upgrade completely to CD. And I don’t think I’ve gotten an new album by him in 15 years. It was the only concert I can recall going to where I felt ripped off by the artist, unfortunatly.

But I did upgrade a couple of albums; and I’ve picked up a few favorite songs off iTunes recently; and I think he will do a truly wonderful version of the Anthem.
