Lost Season 3 Episode 7
Feb 11
OK, so I’m a little late to talking about it, but I finally watched the return of LOST last night. Did you? Have you jumped off the bandwagon for good now, replacing your weekly serialized fiction fix with HEROES? Did ABC officially screw the pooch by splitting this season into two parts? Is LOST the next O.C., doomed to flare up brightly, only to die quickly?
And is this episode the one that SHOULD have ended the first mini-season?

I can just hit your questions one by one.
Watched Lost. I’ve somewhat replaced that fix with Heroes, but I’m still of the opinion that nothing beats Lost. ABC shouldn’t have split up the season, but everyone’s pretty much admitted it was a mistake…. see the article in the latest EW. OC never flared as brightly as Lost, not even close, so I don’t think it’s a good comparison; I mean, O.C. was never that highly rated, and as I understand it only the first season was really that great, wheras with Lost all we’ve really gotten that’s let us down badly was the six-episode mini-season.
And yes, I absolutely think this episode should have ended the mini-season. It was nice to have such a good episode coming back, but I think the mini-season should have been NOTHING but the ’second’ island and should have completely wrapped up Kate & Sawyer’s time on that island. But, if they’d done that, we would have complained that they didn’t check in with the other Losties, so there was no way to win that battle!

Augie, you had the exact same thought I did. I finished that episode and it was immediately obvious to me that I had just seen the proper way to end the mini-season. Why they didn’t, I’ll never know. It’s just such a natural conclusion to that arc.
