New DVD Releases, 13 Feb 2007

Full list.

My list:

Feb. 13, 2007

  • Beauty and the Beast: Season One (6-disc set)

I imagine there will be some people very happy about this.

The Departed (Two-Disc Special Edition)

  • The Departed: Special Edition (widescreen) (2-disc set) (2006)
  • The Departed (widescreen) (2006)

The countdown to the Oscars continues. This is one that I really would like to see. Might have to rent it at some point.

  • Grosse Pointe: The Complete Series (2-disc set)

Created by the guy who gave you SEX AND THE CITY. It was a WB series, I believe, around the same time as POPULAR was on the air, and drew comparisons. I hear POPULAR was really good — anyone here like that one? Or this?

Hustle - Complete Season Two

  • Hustle: Season Two (2-disc set)

I’m ashamed to admit I haven’t cracked open Season One yet. In fact, I’m just now finishing up the third season of MI-5. Right after that, though, I want to get to HUSTLE. Looks like a fantastic show from the same people.

  • Picket Fences: Season One (6-disc set)

Here’s another one of those shows that a certain cultish following must be foaming at the mouth to see at Best Buy today.

Next week: The first season of FAMILY TIES! Plus, FLUSHED AWAY and the 25th Anniversary Edition of GANDHI.

do yourself a favor and see ‘the departed.’ cori and I caught it this past weekend while it was still in the local cheap theater. it is VERY good. lots of twists and turns and many points where I was almost cringing waiting for what would happen next.

  2. Nick Says:

As far as I know, Picket Fences got pulled and won’t be out until summer. I was debating putting it on my Netflix list, so I’d been paying attention to it.

  3. Josh Herndon Says:

My only purchase this week is going to be the first disc of the second season of “Masters of Horror”. While I don’t like them releasing each as a single disc, I just can’t say no to the series!

  4. Juan Says:

I second the DEPARTED recommendation. One of the best movies of 2006, if not THE best. I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t win best picture.

  5. Jeff Says:

Departed was probably the best movie I saw in 2006. Well, that and Borat. But from a drama standpoint, Departed is a must-watch.

  6. scott Says:

Yeah, I can’t find Picket Fences listed anywhere, either. Looks like it’s not actually out yet.

  7. Trip Bakun Says:

Hustle is excellent! You should dive right into the first season after you finish MI-5. I’m doing the exact opposite - watching Hustle Season 2 and then will start on the third season of MI-5.

  8. Geoff J Says:

HUSTLE is actaully a better show than MI:5, in much the same way as Angel was better than Buffy (at least after Buffy switched to the WB…)

Hustle is far more fantasy based and a fun time

Also check out Life on Mars if you haven’t already also from the BBC…

  9. Joey Groah Says:

You know, I remember seeing some episodes of Popular and liking them. The show was a little more offbeat than a lot of high school dramas.
