Does Sanjaya bring back memories of Zayida from RockStar for anyone else but me? He is one of the worst things I've seen in a long time, PLEASE let him go home this week. It is just too painful to watch him!

I think it would have been the same effect if I had put the TV on mute when Haley was up there. That girl with the "Hollywood Treatment" is gorgeous. I don't see her going home tonight because she'll win the "Hot Girl" vote. I do think Brandon is going home tonight while America is left shocked that Sanjaya is still on the show. No surprise for me though.

I know it's too early to say but none of this really matters and it's all formality. You might as well wrap this competition up with a bow and hand it to Doolittle...unless she implodes somewhere down the line.

Also, if Jordin is smart, she'll start losing weight, thereby looking hotter and hotter as the competition goes on. You combine that with improved performances and she could very well pull an upset over Melinda.

First, the Motown era is my favorite era of music for all-time.

Second, Haley was a hot mess! I can't even describe what she did with that song, but Simon was letting her down gently because of her fragile state of mind. She cries at the drop of a hat! She reminded me of McPheever tonight with the look!

Lakisha was the best of the night with Phil being the best of the men. Melinda was great as usual, but Paula's crying creeped me out!

I'm sorry but I can no longer wait on Brandon to wow me or Sanjaya for that matter. Sanjaya is just too weak of a singer for this competition and Brandon is just too boring.

Stephanie is still my favorite although I was waiting on her to pounce on that song after the sexy intro. Didn't happen! Oh, and I didn't notice she had missed some words unlike some of the others. That's a good singer who can pull that off in front of an audience.

I also thought Gina did a better performance than what the judges gave her credit for.

Brandon, Sanjaya, and Haley enough already! D@#! and to think we let Sabrina go!

You can mock Sanyaja's singing all you want, but you have to admit he was wearing some nice earrings. AND he's the second-hottest chick after Haley.

I don't watch Idol until it gets down to the final 12 (or later). I find the televising of the auditions to be an off-putting exercise in enjoying the misery of others. But I like to hear decent to good singers singing tunes I'm familiar with. Imagine my surprise last night when I heard three singers and three singers alone. It was awful. No reason now for me to watch anymore, until they get down to the final three. Thanks for the reporting, so that I can get back to this when the ones who should have been eliminated have been.

LOVED: LaKisha, Melinda, and Jordin (or Jordin! as TVwoP calls her). Also Gina, because well, I *heart* Gina. I don't think she did poorly enough to get herself booted off, not with so many other under-performers to choose from. I agree that she could have done more, added more oomph to the song like she did last week, but again, I think she's definitely safe.

LIKED: Haley, but because of everything you said, Augie. Chris Sligh, and Phil. Brandon, because I just like him, and wish he would show what we know is there.

INDIFFERENT: Stephanie, Blake.

DEAR GOD WHY: Sanjaya, Chris Richardson.

Which brings me to the next quandary of Idol song selection and arrangement. They're told to make the song their own, make it different instead of standard. If they sing it straight, then they are compared to the original and almost always found lacking; if they change it, they get criticized for messing with a Sacred Cow. Apparently, all of Motown stuff is sacred, as per the judges last night.

I said "Coldplay" the instant Chris Sligh's music started. I actually liked his vocals, even though the arrangement was odd. I thought he was strong and on key. I'm not the world's biggest Blake fan, but again, I saw what he was doing with the new arrangement and didn't think it was a bad idea.

I mean, Chris Daughtry did that Live version of "I Walk the Line" last year, and was praised to high heaven...does it really then depend on the vocal delivery being good enough to get past the change in arrangement?? Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on that.

Last week, I complained that our two "music theory nerds," Blake and Chris S., were going too esoteric with their song selection; and this week, given recognizable songs to sing, they over-think them, creating arrangements that are all head, no heart. Still, there's never been an idol contestant like either of them. They're both treating this like a competition as well as a showcase, so they're clearly strategizing on how to win, and how to impress label executives. I didn't like either of their performances -- Chris sounded lost, and Blake has yet to prove that he can sing a song straight through without losing his breath -- but I admire their gumption.

Augie, "Love Hangover" is one of those disco songs like "Last Dance" that starts slow and then gets really fast and danceable. Stephanie chose not to sing the dance-y part. I think she'll make it through tonight, but I also think she'll be in the bottom three, with Phil and Brandon.
