Flash Game of the Year

Forget “of the day.” This is the game guaranteed to cost you countless days of productivity:

Desktop Tower Defense

It seems simple at first, but the more you play it, the more you’ll think about it. Should you invest in more firepower? Stronger firepower? Air defense? You have to beat the bosses, since they give you unbelievable points to beef up your defenses with. And you’ll want to use some of the cheat pop guns to move the bad guys around to stall for time while you fire at them.

I’ve gotten to level 39, but never past it yet.

Update: There are YouTube Videos showing you how to get to very high levels.

I thought I was doing well, but my wife totally kicked my @$$. She built a maze using walls made of cheap guns interspersed occasionally with the faster more expensive ones. The maze slows them down enough for the slow cheap guns to work. Last game, she hit level 50, 4970 score, and 12 lives left at the end.

Wow. I’ve been pretty good about making them go through a circuitous route to either side and then packing plenty of those second guns along the way. But, then, I still can’t make it past 40 or so. The flying ships kill me everytime — I can’t slow them down and I’ve wasted too much gold in building the maze to overpower the guns.

I got to lvl 50 and 5000+ points on normal about my 5th try. Funnel them to the upper left corner to start; then force them to exit through the lower right. Then create a maze zigging and zagging back and forth, all out of the supercheap pellet guns. Don’t upgrade them. At the very middle, install a few Squirt towers. Start with 3 or so; be ready to upgrade a few as you get more money. Only upgrade those to about lvl two, then pick one and upgrade it to typhoon tower. Repeat with the next one, and so on. It’s expensive and feels like you’re waiting too long, but they do enough damage to make it worth it.

Fun game, time to try it on hard!

Thanks for wasting my time, August

Glad I could help, Robbo. I made it up to level 43 last night. I’m almost there to 50!

Eric - Thanks for the tips. I’m going to try that next. You’re right that all those pellet guns add up after awhile. I build a big long maze out of those, not expecting them to kill anything, but they work. The biggest problem I have is with the flying levels. I do buy a couple of missile launchers for them. I find places near the middle of the board, just so I can maximize how many flyers they can shoot at.

I finally beat it on Normal last night and beat the 4000K challenge. Not to try an do the 3000K challenge.

Thanks to Eric’s suggestions, I finished the 50 levels today. That felt empowering. Only let three or four flyers get by, and I even equipped the center of the board with some surface-to-air missiles to go after them. But, man, those souped-up #2s are amazing when you max them out.
