Mamet directs Ford ads
Never thought I’d read this one. But I’ll be keeping an eye out for the ads on IDOL tonight:
Playwright David Mamet directs Ford ads - Yahoo! News
In an effort to get more people to notice its new vehicles, Ford Motor Co. has enlisted the help of filmmaker and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet to direct some of its commercials.
The television spots, to debut Tuesday night during Fox’s “American Idol,” compare the company’s Edge crossover vehicle to the BMW X-5 and the Lexus RX-350, Ford officials said. […]
The spots feature two men sitting in Edges, talking out the window about how their vehicles compare with the BMW and Lexus.

It sounds like vintage Mamet, just without the F-bombs.

I don’t recall seeing it tonight, but it does sound slike an interesting commercial. But then again, I was a little distracted tonight watching American Idol.
Sorry to hijack the comments with this, but I need to share a little bit. I am not sure if I have mentioned this or not before, but I currently work at Virginia Tech (I actually work in a building right next to the dorm where the initial shooting took place and our office used to be in the building next to where the mass shootings too place). Our world has been turned upside down these past couple of days. I have always enjoyed your site over the years Augie and it has been nice to come here for a few moments to escape from everything going on. I attended here for a few years back in the mid 90s and I had a few classes in Norris Hall. So, having been a student here and now as a staff member, it is a very difficult thing to deal with. I recently have gotten a new job so I am in the process of packing up everything to move to the DC area. The packing has been a good thing because I have been able to keep myself busy and not dwell to much.
Ok, now back to your previously scheduled comments!

Josh - Glad to hear you’re OK. I can’t imagine the hell that must be going on over there this week. In cases like this, though, it’s one time that I’m glad every Tom, Dick, and Harry has a cell phone. Imagine if all those kids were evacuated from campus (not that they were), and their parents couldn’t get hold of them because they were nowhere near phones? That’s the oddball thought I had when it happened. I’m sure the campus phone circuits were crushed, as it was.
That said, you might want to skip over my estimation of Chris Richardson’s performance in today’s writeup. ;-)

Yep…my thought exactly. I am constantly annoyed when a student comes into my office talking on the cell phones and won’t even stop long enough to let you talk to them, but it was certainly a day I was glad everyone had one.
