New DVD Releases, 26 June 2007

Full List.

My list is once again underwhelming:

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection Vol. 11

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series

High School Musical, The Concert - Extreme Access Pass

Shooter (Widescreen Edition)

  • The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3: The Complete Series (3-disc set)

Now you can officially call me a fanboy, if only because the cover image made me giggle.

  • Disney’s High School Musical: The Concert Extreme Access Pass

At least it’s not just another special edition of the same old movie yet again. It’ll sell a gajillion copies or two, also.

  • Monk: Season Five

I include this here not because I think I have any interest in it, but rather because I think this is the future of more of my television viewing habits. With the HDTV, standard TV just looks like crap now. I want more shows in widescreen goodness on DVD, if I can’t get them in High Def to begin with.

I’m seriously considering getting back to CSI after taking a couple of seasons off, just to enjoy the crisp HD goodness.

  • Mystery Science Theater 3000: Vol. 11 (4-disc set)

Can’t ever go wrong with Mike or Joel and the bots. This one features the excruciating Horrors of Spider Island from season ten.

  • Shooter (widescreen) (2007)

I don’t ever remember seeing so much as an ad for SHOOTER, but it came out earlier this year and starred the likes of Danny Glover, Mark Wahlberg, and Rhona Mitra. Antoine Fuqua directed it, and he’s done some nifty stuff in the past. (I’m one of the few who thought TEARS OF THE SUN was a really good, if depressing, movie.)

Next week: Since it’s the July Fourth holiday week, the list is very very short. I don’t think there’s any highlights in there at all. Maybe THE COMPLETE BATFINK? Yup, it’s just that bad.

  1. Jim Kosmicki Says:

Shooter is based on a very, very good book called Point of Impact by Steven Hunter. He’s a master of the military style thriller. I remember when it came out that people said they changed some of the plot points from the book, but I don’t remember anyone saying that they changed the main plot much. That alone should make it a very solid action movie.
