New DVD Releases for 10 July 2007
After last week’s spectacular dearth of titles, anything would be good this week, don’thca think?
Here’s the full list.
Some of my highlights:
- The Contractor (2007)
See Wesley Snipes in his last tax-free existence role.
- Extras: Season Two (2-disc set)
- Hustle: Season Three
That should be about all the British television you need to watch this week. I’m still only a couple of episodes into season one of HUSTLE. Like it so far, but won’t be buying more until I finish the first and know I like it enough. Besides, I still have a season of MI-5 to watch, and that must take precedence. Damn fine show, that.
EXTRAS is, of course, Ricky Gervais’ follow-up to THE OFFICE. So far, no word of an NBC edition. ;-)
- My Super Sweet 16: Seasons 1-2
- My Super Sweet 16: The Movie (2007)
I believe I once linked to an article here about how this show should be included in the take away bag of every new parent as they leave the hospital. If you want to see everything that could go wrong in parenting, this is your 101 beginner’s master class on the topic. Watch some of the most hilariously screwed-up monsters of spoiled brats plan their 15th and 16th birthday parties. Because we don’t have enough crap to spend our money on in this country anymore. . .
As if that wasn’t bad enough, MTV even did a movie on the concept.
Next week: Jim Carrey returns for THE NUMBER 23. And yet another edition of SHOWGIRLS. But will it include the pasties this time?

Can’t wait to watch Season 3 of Hustle - time to head over to my Netflix queue for some updating! Recorded Season 4 off of AMC earlier this year and burned them to DVDs on my MacBook - interested to see how those turned out.
Where are you on MI:5? I just sent back disc 3 of Season 4 to Netflix yesterday and should have the next one at my place shortly. I’ve had all the eps of Season 5 for a while now and I’m eager to get to those before the new fall season starts.
Extras Season 2 was even better than the first season. Check it out if you find the time.

Actually, the release I found most amusing this week was Home Run Derby Volume 1, featuring legendary players such as Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Ernie Banks, and Hank Aaron competing to hit the most home runs in cozy Wrigley Field (in Los Angeles, not the more famous park in Chicago). I had to pass it up, though; need to save up my pennies for the Popeye DVD collection coming out later this month…
