When people younger than me complain about "feeling old"... :P Anyone rembember the online DVD battles of 1998-2000? Reel.com with their constant $20 off / no min purchase coupons? 800.com with their 3 DVDs for $1 loss leader? It was a GREAT time for the early adopter. When that first wave of 9 Disney DVDs came out, RIDICULOUSLY priced at $40/pop, I was able to finagle them down to $15 each with coupons and rebate gimmicks. WOW did I feel like a regular Internet Bargain Badass... I'm going Blu-Ray this year so I'm looking for some level of competitive pricing, but with the idiotic format war raging on, it'll be intresting to see who blinks first, Microsoft or Sony. Given that Disney animation will be exclusive on Blu-Ray (cannot WAIT for Sleeping Beauty and Ratatouille), I am gonna have to bite the bullet sooner than later. Thought: if High School Musical 2 comes out as a Blu-Ray exclusive, could that tip the favor? Or is the endless ocean of screaming tweenies chomping at the bit to try a new format when they can get the $10 regular DVD at WalMart and pop it into their Zac Efron combination DVD player/ EZ Bake oven? I remember paying those prices for DVDs in the early days. And when someone had a sale online for a $19.99 DVD, everyone bought it no matter what movie it was just so you could say you had a movie that cost less than $20. It is funny because I am dipping my toes into the Blu-ray market right now and the pricing is very similar right now. I feel like it is 1997 all over again!
