New DVD Releases for 30 Oct 2007

Spider-Man 3

From left to right: The preferred two disc special edition DVD. The single disc DVD. And the Blu-Ray DVD with all three movies on it.

Looney Tunes - Golden Collection, Volume Five

These used to seem a lot more exciting. With all the BIG memorable shorts already collected, though, it begins to fade. On the other hand, this one does have “Ali Baba Bunny” on it, as well as “Bewitched Bunny” and a 3 Bears short, and the CHUCK JONES: EXTREME AND INBETWEENS documentary that I have on its own DVD from a few years back. (It’s still available at the link for $10.)

OK, so I’m excited about it again.

Scrubs, Season Six

Its final season begins in January, I believe, and its creator promises to wrap it all up, give the audience what they want, and then fade to black while a Journey song plays. That last part was a joke. I think.

My So Called Life

This was originally released via the internet-only after much hullaballoo. Now you can buy it everywhere and anywhere.

Next week: More TV series, by the looks of it, and a PIXAR movie about a rat.

Scrubs actually started again last Thursday after The Office.

  2. Nick Says:

    Beat me to it.

Any word on which store has the best exclusives for the Spider-Man DVD? I had heard Wal-Mart had an exclusive comic book that was pretty neat.

  3. Phil Foxx Says:

Yep — W*M has a comic by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley that comes with the single-disc version of the movie. Target has a bonus extras disc, Best Buy has a set with a Spider-Man mask (one version in red, one in black — not in the same set, but in two different sets), and Circuit City has a set that comes with the soundtrack.

I don’t know of any other exclusives. Personally, I may just put this on my Christmas list, depending on what the Target extras disc is.

  4. Eric Gimlin Says:

Well, the Looney Tunes has moved from “Must get the day it comes out” to “Must get the week it comes out”, but it’s still high on the list. And we also get “Transylvania-6500″ and “Bugs’ Bonnets”, both of which I think very highly of.
I’m _still_ waiting for “Hare Brush” to show up, for that matter. (”My name is Elmer J. Fudd, Millionaire. I own a mansion and a yacht.”) Something to hope for next year.
And once I actually get the set, a lot of my enjoyment comes from the ones I don’t have memorized from reruns years ago. Plus, on general principles, I want all 1000 Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies available; so at least once in my life I can sit down and watch all of them.

  5. Paul Says:

Great stuff this week … and next week … and probably the week after that (it must be getting close to Christmas).

  6. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

Troy - Crap! Thanks for the warning. I need to go hit Bit Torrent, er, I mean the iTunes Music Store. . .

  7. Paul C Says:

I definitely give Scrubs a recommendation. This one was probably the most drama packed series so far with plenty of shocks (don’t worry it was still very funny as well).

  8. Josh Herndon Says:

I was all set to buy the Blu-ray trilogy of Spider-Man this week until I realized the finances just weren’t allowing it. Definitely will get that by Christmas though!

  9. Trip Bakun Says:

I thought that NBC yanked all of their shows from iTunes? What is SCRUBS still doing on iTunes?

  10. Augie De Blieck Jr. Says:

NBC doesn’t own Scrubs, which is one of the reasons it’s barely been renewed over the years. I suspect that’s why it’s still at iTunes. The shows NBC yanked are the ones it (at least partially) owns.
