X-Files Marks Spot for Release - Yahoo! News

Twentieth Century Fox has at long last unveiled a release date for its forever-in-the-works X-Files sequel, announcing that Mulder and Scully will be reuniting on the big screen June 25, 2008. […]

Fox, however, did note that the film, written and directed by X-Files creator Chris Carter, would act as a stand-alone story.

Yay!

    Stand alone. What the crap?

It’ll be a much easier sell that way. Plus, the show tends to lose its way when it gets enveloped in the overall mythology that collapsed under its own weight by the end.

I think that I prefer the stand alone approach. The show has been off the air how many years now - 6~7? I can’t remember a thing from the mythology. At the end of its run, I was begging for the monster of the week eps.

Concur about the not-mythology. This many years after the show ended, only the hardest-core X-Files fan would want to see a movie that’s a continuation of the show. I’ll likely be interested in seeing it if they can keep it simple and standalone.
