Around September of '06 the console that was on the running to take my money was the PS3 but it was just too expensive, the Wii was only a distant 3rd for me (Xbox360 was my 2nd choice) but after being able to try it at the mall, I was definitely sold, took me awhile before I was able to get my own Wii, it was about 3 months after launch before I was able to buy one and that's lining up at 5AM in the morning at our local TRU, good thing that day the weather was mild so standing outside was not so bad.
I'm sorry to hear the sad news, Overworm. I have high hopes for Nintendo customer service now. Please keep us updated on how things go. I'd be interested to know.

Paul - it is crazy, isn't it? Even the iPhone was readily available on launch weekend. You'll have no problem buying a PS3 today, even with the continuously lowered prices. And the XBox 360 is still a solid seller, despite the all-too-commonplace red rings of death issues.

Who'da thunk it?

My Wii just broke itself. After 10 great months of fun, it began experiencing a little difficulty ejecting discs. Now, it won't eject at all and the disc is stuck, about an inch of it protruding from the console. It's impossible to grab it and pull it out because it feels like Wii elves have a vise grip, holding it tight, and I'm afraid to pull too hard for fear of breaking something.

Crap. Now I have to see if Nintendo will ask me to mail the darn thing back to them or if they'll just ship me a new one. I guess the good news is that this is still under the 12 month manufacturer's warranty.

Yeah happy birthday Wii! It is incredible to think just how successful it has been over such a short period of time. I'm looking for one for Christmas but everywhere is sold out, just goes to show how popular it still is.
