[...] At the beginning of the month, I did an Open Mic Friday, and let you all run with your thoughts in the comment thread. A number of questions came up that I promised I’d respond to at some point, and that turned out to be today. So let’s have at it. [...]

Better late than never I guess. That is what being sick will do! Why is it that every time I get some time off I end up getting sick? Nothing ruins a good break from work more than getting sick. If I wanted to sit around feeling miserable, I'd go to work to do it! (Ok, my current job isn't bad. I actually like it. Now my old job, definitely miserable)

Thanks, all, for your thoughts. I'll be replying to some of them in a special post later in the week. Keep 'em coming, if you have any others.

What I loved about MTV was when it first began, its purpose was to rage against the machine--now it's become the machine...what's that old saying about hunting monsters, careful you don't become one.

I live in a part of the country that doesn't get Fox over the air. I don't have cable; I work 50-60 hours a week at a newspaper and don't get to watch much TV, so I gave it up almost four years ago.

Consequently, I've only seen three episodes of "American Idol" in my life during trips to visit relatives; the next-to-last episodes of seasons 4 and 5, and the final episode of season 6.

I've read your recaps, and imagine I will again this year. Is this the year I need to take the plunge and get cable so I can finally watch a season and see just what the heck the deal is?

Why don't women like the Three Stooges? Why do subtitled films make most American audiences scream in anger? What ever happened to Phoebe Cates? Why do some people think spraying Febreze on the crotch area of their jeans = "doing laundry"? Why are people watching that idiotic "Super Sweet 16" show on MTV? Why do people watch MTV anymore anyhow? Whatever happened to DC's "Agent Liberty" character? Why do people at karaoke think they are on "American Idol" and try to belt out long, belabored ballads when people just want to hear salty songs with bawdy lyrics? How come people buy Papasan Chairs from Pier 1? Who named the Vitamins and how come they seem to have stopped in the early letters? Do they even bother making pencils that aren't "#2"? Why do people think "Magnolia" is a brilliant movie instead of the overblown garbage that it is? What does Willard Scott do in his spare time?

Have you found that posting daily in a blog is good for your writing skills? I mean in terms of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, etc. Does it keep you fresh and make you better at communicating ideas?

Here you go. Here's something.

Guitar Hero 3 guitars.

I bought GH3 for the PS2 for Xmas. Bought a 2nd guitar for my wife. Bought one made by React, a wired one, b/c it was on sale for $30.

It sucked. Buttons broke within about 5 days.

Decided to return it and buy a better one, now that I knew my wife liked playing. Bought the white wireless guitar made by RedOctane. The box said 'Compaitible with GH1 & GH2". Asked the Best Buy guy if it worked with GH3, which I figured yes, but wanted to be sure. He said definitely. Bought it, and a warranty plan.

Could NOT get the thing to work. Could not ever get it connected wirelessly to the PS2... not in conjunction with the GH3 guitar, not on it's own, nothing. Thought it might be broken because the red light was not coming on in the back, and it had also been the last one in the store.

Had to drive 45 minutes to the only other Best Buy store near me that had others of this guitar in stock. Swapped it out. New one had the same problem. Checked online... Best Buy's own website had a review for this guitar that it did not work for GH3!

Went back to Best Buy. Ended up swapping it back for the original wired guitar I'd had, plus a refund, since I'd made it clear (politely but insistently) that it was their fault I'd ever bought the other one.

Wired guitar works, but MAN, what a hassle.

Here's your place for comment: did I act right, or was there a better way to handle things? Do you think the white wireless guitar was really not compatible with GH3, or was I doing something wrong? These are the questions that haunt my very soul.
