What can go wrong on the Amazon Marketplace
Cowboy Bebop - The Perfect Sessions.
It’s a two DVD boxed set of selected episodes from the series remastered for sound and video. I’m guessing it’s out of print now.
I saw the boxed set at a local Borders that was going out of business. I didn’t buy it because I already had it, but in the back of my head I thought, “I wonder if it would be worth buying this at 25% off and selling it on the Marketplace for a profit?”
That’s the kind of guy I am these days. ::sigh::
So I looked it up on Amazon. It was originally priced at $30.
There are four new copies on sale, starting at $27.
There are nine used copies on sale, starting at $75.
That makes no sense, does it? I’m guessing that at one point, there were no new copies on sale, and the only used copy fetched a high price, and everyone selling a used copy followed that. Something similar happened with someone with a new copy, though he set the price closer to the original price. And everyone followed along.
This is why it’s important to check the full list of prices for an item before you list yours.
(Update: Whoops. As per the comments below, I got my Perfect Sessions DVD mixed up with the Remixed sessions. That doesn’t completely explain the price disparity between new and used, but it does mean I did a good thing in NOT buying the box I saw at Borders. I’ve added the REMIXED boxed set I saw there into this post. It’s only going for about $3 at Amazon right now.)

The box/link which you have posted - is actually a collection of the ENTIRE series. Not sure if it’s a legal copy, Japanese print readable in region 1 or bootleg - but the copy I have is of excellent quality, so who cares. For $ 27 for the complete series, it’s a steal. I recommend it.
I think what you saw in Borders was the “Cowboy Bebop:Remixed” set.

And come February all the REMIX releases are being packaged together into a set costing (at Amazon) $40 (the set’s called Cowboy Bebop: Anime Legends). Which is amusing to me since two of the original Remix releases would have costed more than $40.

Saw that they were releasing the set Paul mentioned in this month’s Previews in the video section at the end of the catalog. I bought the original DVD set Amazon specially packaged for $99.99 back a few years ago and now am saddened that the Remix set is coming at less than regular cost of 2 of those DVD’s.

Before you go out and order those Anime Legend sets - be VERY careful. They did the exact same thing with Wolf’s Rain ( done by the same people as Bebop - and released by Bandai as well ) - and it was called the COMPLETE WOLF’S RAIN, but then you get the DVD set and come to the realization that the COMPLETE set is divided into 2 DVD sets - released MONTHS apart, so COMPLETE with Bandai could mean ANYTHING. Notice, there’s a real lack of information on Bandai’s site as well regarding this.
My guess is the REMIX set is being sold as Part 1 and Part 2.

Thanks, guys, for the correction. COWBOY BEBOP is pretty much the only anime series I’ve ever seriously gotten into. And my lack of knowledge about the anime DVD world is a bit telling, I’m afraid. If the complete remixed series is coming out for $40 (or even $80 for two), then I’m REALLY glad I didn’t go for the individual discs when they were re-issued in the last year or two.

According to the Amazon listing, the Anime Legends release is set to be six discs, which would be enough for the complete series. Might be worth not pre-ordering and waiting on a review or something, but $38 for the complete COWBOY BEBOP is an amazing deal. I probably spend $120 - $150 for those discs originally.

Yeah, but the AMAZON listings for the ANIME LEGENDS set for Wolf’s Rain made it seem the same way. MY advice - wait and see what happens to other people AFTER they get them when it’s released.
Or - you could just order the Complete Perfect Collection right now for under $ 30.
