True - he was on national tv - that is true .. but from stuff I've read & heard from past houseguests in the Big Brother House - despite knowing that fact, after a while - you kind of forget about it & more or less act as if you were in private. 24 hours a day and 7 days a week - sometimes you're going to be caught in a less than perfect moment - moreso when there's absolutely nothing to do but talk to fill up space. Shame on CBS for wanting to be SHOCKING by airing his moment of dumbness on national tv.

Sure, in private. But he wasn't in private. He was on national TV. As a brother of a "retarded" young boy, I can say right here and now that those comments were wrong, insensitive, and disgusting, especially to say in front of millions.

I know several people -- all of whom I consider not only "good" people but probably more "outstanding" - who have worked with the mentally handicapped, LOVED and felt rewarded by their jobs - yet did occasionally say remarks about them that was less than politically correct, as Adam did with the "retards" comment. Now - these people - and Adam more than likely - are not bad people or insensitive brutes - and don't think of these people as being "lower status" - in fact they all consider them to be special and deserving of our love. Why the comments then ? I attribute it to all those people more or less using "black humour" as a defense mechanism in having to deal with fellow human beings that have this disabiity - since they have to deal with this every day. Now they would never call these people these names - and would be shocked or angry at anyne that would - but probably in private or between them - they probably sometimes do.
