New DVD Releases for 18 March 2008

It’s that time again! NEW DVDS!

  • I Am Legend

This is the Will Smith wannabe-blockbuster from a few months back. I think it did pretty well in the box office, so good on them all. The DVD features a new ending that has been getting better reviews than the theatrical release, which is good news.

  • Enchanted

This is the Disney live action princess/prince movie that will no doubt be the best-seller of the week. It’s family friendly and features that hunk from that doctor show with all the whiney people in it.

  • Atonement

It’s an Oscar-nominee, you know, so it must be good.

  • Bionic Woman, Volume One (2007 version)

But will there be a second season? I don’t think it’s looking too good on that.

  • Battlestar Galactica: Season Three (modern version)

Hard core fans have been waiting for this one. . .

  • Love in the Time of Cholera

With a title like that, I had to mention it. (Sadly, my Amazon search plug-in can’t find the DVD, so I can’t show you the cover art. Sorry.)

Next week: Wings, Season Six! (Hey, I liked that show!)

  1. I am Legend – Great solid action film, with an outstanding performance by Will Smith. The ending was totally different than the novel, so I’m curious to see what the new DVD ending is.

Love in the Time of the Cholera – don’t mock too much. It was a horrid movie adaption of an amazing, world-famous novel. Yeah, Garcia-Marquez has a definite political agenda, but it’s still a great piece of literature.

Enchanted – FANTASTIC movie – makes fun of the Disney archetypes without being mean-spirited, and has some hysterical and brilliant set pieces.

  2. I Am Legend and Enchanted (both on BD) are coming to me by way of Amazon today. I really liked both of them. I was drawn deeply into Legend and loved every minute of it. Enchanted is my winner of the week. I saw it in the theaters and absolutely LOVED it. I was ready to pre-order it the minute I walked out of the theater.

  3. I just ordered BSG off of Amazon. I love that show. The drama is so gripping that I’m always on the edge of my seat. I mean the last few episodes with the trial of Baltar are one of the best examples of drama I’ve ever seen, especially with the rift in the relationship between Bill and Lee Adama.

As for Bionic Woman, the new Jaime Somers was extremely hot. Starbuck was hot and awesome as the psycho Bionic Woman 1.0, and I really enjoyed the show. It’s a shame it’s not coming back.

  4. Waiting for BSG to arrive from Amazon (although I should have waited a day and ordered off Augie’s link so he could get some credit – shame on me and sorry Augie).

I liked I Am Legend when I saw it the theaters. If you want to see the alternate ending it’s up on Youtube. I like the alternate ending better for all but for the very final scene. It’s far too hopeful for what immediately precedes it, which was probably as close as you get the book’s ending without upsetting some people.
