Voiceover Master Don LaFontaine has died. He was 68. LaFontaine, known as the “King of Voiceovers,” died Monday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. La Fontaine’s agent, Vanessa Gilbert, tells ET that he passed away following complications from Pneumothorax, the presence of air or gas in the pleural cavity, the result of a collapsed lung. The official cause of death has not yet been released.
Suddenly, movie trailers just got a whole lot less interesting.
Go look at the “Comedian” movie trailer to see the man in action.
Update: OK, that’s embarrassing. That’s not La Fontaine in the trailer. That’s a different movie voice over guy, Hal Douglas, who is fairly prolific and sounds a lot like him. Crap. Sorry for the confusion. Here’s some video of the real La Fontaine. (“The Comedian” movie trailer is still funny.)
Heartbreaking. One of the great giants in voice acting.
I think it was Hal Douglas in the “Comedian” trailer; Don LaFontaine did do that Geico commercial, at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJMGS7l0wT8
that’s not DLF in the trailer.
Between this and Bill Melendez, on Tuesday, this week has been a very sad one for me.
