‘Idol’ format changes

They’re going to make official announcements on Monday, but I think a lot of people will be happy to hear about this “American Idol” format change: ‘Idol’ format changes planned–The Live Feed

Fewer audition episodes and more Hollywood-round episodes. The shift increases the show’s emphasis on talented performers and shies further away from the crash-and-burn spectacle of less-talented attention seekers. The memo noted the aim was to feature “fewer bad singers and more ‘aspirational’ singers.”

  1. Wow… one lunatic Paula Abdul fan kills herself .. and they ditch the one segment that made the show worth watching. Cowards covering their asses! IDOL’s only mistake – was showcasing Paula Godspeed, when they knew she was unstable to begin with. They knew that Paula even had restraining order against her, that alone should have made them turn her away at the door – not just because she was clearly unstable but for the safety of one of their stars. My bet is that they essentially muzzle Simon as well, less he offends anyone at all ( as if they don’t expect it – what next- Don Rickles has to compliment people ? ).

  2. I think this is a great idea. I’m always disappointed that the Hollywood episodes go by so quickly. There’s so much drama to be had in those episodes. I’m glad they’re focusing more on that part of the process. I don’t need to see whackos in every audition city–just a couple are enough for me.
