Links for a Thursday

  • Overlapr.com tells you Twitter which friends of yours overlap with another friend.

  • Here’s the story of the girl who grew up with two hearts.  Eventually, the back-up heart failed and was removed, but it gave the primary heart enough time to strengthen itself.

  • First review of “Wii Sports Resort” I’ve seen so far. Mind you, I wasn’t looking very hard, but this is hopeful.  I haven’t played too many video games lately, but I’d love to give this one a spin.

  • Why “Wipeout” wins. Answer: a dearth of slapstick television.

  • Remember when the Harry Potter movie series began, and everyone said the same actors couldn’t make all the movies?  It would take too much out of their childhoods, or they’d age faster than the movies could keep up with them, etc?  Ah, we were so naive then.  (No link.  I just felt like pointing that out.)

  • It’s just so crazy it might work.  No, not really.  It’s complete and utter madness, but it is hilarious: Convert Central Park into an airport!

My People: The Latest Update

Belgian authorities are checking out public profiles of their citizenry to determine who might not be reporting their entire income.  It’s enough to launch an investigation, and perfectly legal.

Think twice before opening our mouth on-line again. You know the IRS will be all over this soon enough.  (“You reviewed that ‘Harry Potter’ book, but I don’t see you paying taxes from Amazon purchases anywhere on your tax return?  AUDIT!”)

Where to find me

Hi all,

I’m over at FriendFeed, scratching the same old itches. . .

Find me here.

Without Twitter. . .

I have thoughts I NEED to express, but nobody who cares.

Heck, I likely have that with Twitter, too. So nevermind.

But I do need to say this: Apologies for there being no photo on AugieShoots.com yesterday. That’s the first time it’s happened this year, and it’s a complete Stupid Stupid User mistake on my part. I loaded up yesterday’s image — and today’s — with next month’s date. So the photos are up there now.

Also, I had a roast beef sandwich for lunch.

What, isn’t that what Twitter is for?

I have offended the Twitter gods

For unknown reasons, Twitter has suspended my account for “strange activity.”

I haven’t done anything wrong, I’ve dropped them a line, we’ll see how this turns out.

I imagine I’ll be back eventually.

Link Dump for Thursday

Sorry things have slowed up here so much again lately.  Here are some links to keep you busy for a while as an apologia:

Links A Lot

Good news: I’m working on something to revitalize this blog, for at least a couple of weeks. . That debuts on Monday.  In the meantime, some links:

  • Every now and then, I think it’d be a swell idea to digitize some of my VHS library that still sits unloved in boxes somewhere.  This Mac tool might make it easier, but it still isn’t going to happen.  Plus, most of the stuff I saved on VHS is now out on DVD. Not all of it, though. . .

Interviewing for a podcast

I think this is about right, Top two rows are the left and right channels of the interviewee. Bottom two channels are the interviewer (me), left and right. A lot of those blue spikes will be edited out completely in the final audio. There’s no need to hear all of my little grunts and laughs and whatnot in the final interview.

Audacity Screnshot

This interview should be going up in the beginning of next week.

Hope for eBay?

Undoing Meg Whitman’s eBay – Bits Blog – NYTimes.com

More subtly, but maybe more important, Mr. Donahoe is backing off from Ms. Whitman’s initiative to take on Amazon.com and make eBay an important player for the purchase of new, current-season goods. Her acquisition of Shopping.com was part of that, as was the move to expand features such as eBay stores on the main site.

The new focus seems to be on making eBay into an outlet shopping experience.  I suppose this might be half a step in a better direction.

Finally got frames, so it’s time to decorate the den a little. Todd Klein prints

Dear Internet – Buy a Dictionary

TwitScoop provides a lovely word cloud of hot topics of the moment on Twitter. Tonight, some wild storms buzzed through the East Coast.  Lots of bright flashes of lights and loud booms came with it.  Spring has sprung! This gave the internet a chance to show its ignorance once again.  Here’s a segment of that word cloud:

Lightening?!?

At first, I thought perhaps that there was a new Photoshop tutorial that taught people how to better lighten up a particular part of a picture.  I clicked through to see what everyone was talking about:

People are stupid Shame on you all.

Spell it with me: “Thunder and lightning.”  Thanks.

DVD Release of the Week for 25 March 2009

I know it isn’t as beloved as the previous one, but I still want to see it:

It’s also available for purchase for iTunes in High Def for $20.  Bit steep, but you can also rent it there for $4.99.

That box on the right is for the two-disc DVD set.  There’s a single disc release, as well, that’ll save you roughly $5.

AI8 Predictions

Running out of time.  Let’s do this quickly:

Who goes out in what order:

  1. Kris Allen – how did he get here in the first place?
  2. Michael Sarver – Ditto, besides the Nice Guy story.
  3. Jasmine Murray – barely made it in in the first place.
  4. Matt Giraud – He WANTS to be that guy who sang that awful ColdPlay song.  He’s doomed.
  5. Jorge Nunez – The accent/lack-of-accent gets to America. Puerto Rico’s solid voting block only goes so far.
  6. Anoop – A novelty act. Simon cries.
  7. Alexis Grace – Likable, but not inspiring.
  8. Scott MacIntyre – Not inspiring, vocally.  Paula cries.
  9. Adam Lambert – Too much screaming.
  10. Allison Iraheta — officially becomes the token redhead to go the further in the competition, if you don’t count Nikki McKibbin’s dye job.
  11. Megan Joy – Probably made it much further (farther?) than she should have.
  12. Lil Rounds – Powerful voice, a bit old but otherwise a cookie cutter American Idol contestant.
  13. Danny Gokey – Not the most inspiring or skilled singer.  But people have loved him since Day One.

More guys, but more girls make it into the later rounds.  I’d count on that, if nothing else.  By the time we’re down to 5, you’ll see 3 girls/2 guys, I think.

Who I’m rooting for — nobody in particular this year.  Lots of “eh” this season.  Some good singers, some interesting personalities. I’m hoping someone separates themselves from the pack.  Otherwise, I’m in it for the spectacle.

Round of 13 begins in a matter of hours. . .
